On 12th February, 2004 The Revenue Commissioner, Assam, Mr. M. K. Borooah visited Dhemaji to formally inaugurate the Disaster Risk Management programme at Dhemaji. He was accompanied by Mr. S. Bandhopadhyaya, Regional Chief, UNDP, Mr. R. Majumdar, SPO, UNDP, Assam. At first the Commissioner visited Samarajan G. P. to observe the mock drill conducted by the fire service & police on search & rescue. A village disaster mitigation plan exercise was conducted by the D.P.O.

               The Commissioner arrived at the DRDA training centre, Dhemaji to inaugurate the DRM programme. The team was led by Mr. D. Hazarika, ADC, Dhemaji. Mr. S. Bandhopadhyaya explained the support of UNDP in disaster mitigation to the people. The contents of the programme was highlighted by Mr. R. Majumdar. Several members from NGOs, Red Cross also discussed about various means and techniques on disaster mitigation at Dhemaji district.
